Tenjin provides Data Protection as a Service (“DPaaS”) to schools and trusts, FE and HE. We provide both a specialist Outsourced DPO service and a separate DPO support service for those clients that prefer to keep data protection inhouse but choose to be supported by a specialist service that understands both data protection as well as education.
Here’s an example of what you can expect with our Data Protection Officer Services
- Tenjin can be your Data Protection Officer (DPO) (known as an outsourced DPO service) or support your DPO
- Advice, support and guidance on UK data protection law (UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, The Children’s Code etc.)
- Registering you with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)
- Conducting Data Protection Audits / Health Checks and providing clear remediation plans
- Dealing with data breaches, intervention from the ICO and enforcement action. (Tenjin’s team is experienced in dealing with all types of breach including complex cyber-attacks, ransomware attacks and attacks where schools are the specific target.)
- Creating and maintaining a record of how you process personal data across your organisation/s (ROPA)
- Develop your internal data protection governance structure. Tenjin can help develop your organisation's Information Governance Structure e.g. the formation of an Information Governance Team, Data Breach Team, Roles and Responsibilities, Privacy Champions.
- Attend Senior Leadership/Governor/Trustee Meetings to report on data protection compliance position and progress

Providing “All Staff” data protection training and Role Based Training.
Choose from face to face, online, digital or blended learning. Unlike most DPO services we also offer “role based”, assessed and reportable training that meets the ICO Accountability Framework standard in relation to training. - We can train your DPO, Tenjin is also the only provider of the "Certified Data Protection Practitioner in Education" (CDPPE)
- Managing requests for information such as Subject Access Requests and Freedom of Information requests. (Our experienced team will assist in coordinating responses to requests, redaction of information, applying legal exemptions, and corresponding with requesters and the regulator on your behalf.)
- Tenjin can execute tasks usually reserved for lawyers, eg. reviewing Data Processing Agreements and carrying out pre contract data protection due diligence of your Edtech service providers. This saves your budget and reduces your risk.
